2 day Walney to Wear Challenge Ride - 22nd and 23rd May 2010
Chain Events, a new North East based cycling events company run by David Gray, are organising
their first ever Challenge Ride from Walney Island at Barrow-in-Furness to Wearmouth in
Sunderland over the weekend of 22nd and 23rd May 2010.
Thanks to the baggage transfer from start to finish, you can tackle the two and tough
mid-seventy mile days unladen, in the company of other like-minded cyclists and with an organised
camping site to look forward to in Kirkby Stephen. More details are on the www.chain-events.co.uk website.
David played a pivotal role in the development of the Sea to Sea (C2C) Cycle Route whilst working with
Sustrans, and many years later had a hand in the development of the W2W route.

Sanderson Weatherall Annual Charity Ride
16 staff from Sanderson Weatherall chose the Walney to Wear route as the challenge for this year's charity ride. They made the crossing in 3 days and voted the route the best long distance route yet (the weather might have helped a bit!)

Walney to Whitby charity ride raises £8000
A group of 11 work colleagues from BAM Nuttall and the Environment Agency completed a fundraising Walney to Whitby cycle ride in May 2009 to raise money for the Nancy Oldfield Trust and other charities. Despite none of the group being regular cyclists, some hadn't cycled for 30 years, they made the journey in three and half days including a prolonged stop at the Tan Hill Inn. Traffic free cycling improvements in Kendal

Riders taking the option to vist Kendal can now enjoy the route along the old canal in all
weathers following the completion of resurfacing work on a popular cycle path. The 1.5km
section from Burton Rd to Canal Head near the town centre is part of a larger Kendal Transport Plan which
has seen other improvements in the town including the partial opening of the new Riverside Route and extra
toucan crossings at busy road junctions.
